The fisherman caught a giant pike. “Uncle did great”

A meter-long pike does not come along very often. Mr. Marcin Plotzki shared his technique with other anglers to support their efforts to obtain such a specimen.

As part of the campaign of the portal dzienniksciwedkarskie.com.pl “We release specimens”, Mr. Marcin Plotzki boasted of catching a pike measuring as much as 111 cm. He did this in May last year on Lake Choczewskie.

Mr. Marcin’s fishing preferences

Mr. Marcin’s story begins very similarly to thousands of others. “I have been involved with fishing since I was a small child. I was infected with this beautiful passion by my father, who took me to the water in every free moment,” he recalled.

As he continues, he has had many fishing adventures over the years, and currently he is most interested in spinning and carp fishing. “When I fish with spinning, I know that every movement matters. It is an active game with a predator,” he pointed out.

“The most exciting moment is that split second when you feel the lure hit. Everything happens quickly, you have to use your reflexes,” he emphasized. However, when he wants to relax and calm down, he chooses peaceful carp fishing.

“The introduction to fishing has its own specific rhythm. Setting up a fishing spot, preparing sets, selecting spots and baiting take a lot of time, but there is also time for reflection and admiring nature,” noted Mr. Marcin.

He also emphasized that catching a large carp is a “completely different story” than fighting a predatory fish. It requires much more patience, sensitivity and calm.

“In the case of carp, my favorite fishing spot is Lake Miłoszewskie, while I hunt for pike mainly in shallow water areas, such as Lake Choczewskie. It is quite a shallow fishery, it is a tench-pike fishery, although you can also catch beautiful carp, perch, rudd and bream there,” he said.

A meter long pike in Lake Choczewskie. Memories of a fisherman

The expedition to catch the record pike took place on May 26, 2025. “It was early morning, there was a slight frost at night, there was fog over the water. When I went out to the fishing spot by boat, I didn’t see any signs of feeding fish and I thought it might be difficult for them,” said Mr. Marcin.

“With time, however, the weather cleared up, the fog subsided, the water came to life. The bites started, but the fish were not large. That day I was fishing with a quite strong set consisting of a rod with a weight of up to 30 g and a reel with a spool of braided line with a diameter of 0.16 mm,” he pointed out.

“About six o’clock we decided to sail to my best spot on Choczewskie, where the overgrown shallow area turns into a deeper part of the lake. I armed the set with a 15 cm long Savage Gear 3D LT Trout soft lure. It is a slow-sinking lure that works great in shallow fishing spots,” the angler explained.

“I made a cast, aiming for the edge of the vegetation. After a few turns of the handle, I felt a very strong and energetic hit on the bait. I reflexively hooked it. The reaction was a sudden, uncontrollable departure,” he continued.

“I quickly realized that I had a beautiful pike at the end of my stick. Even though it wasn’t particularly brave, you could feel its mass. Eventually, the predator got so tired that I easily led it to the boat,” he described.

Finally, with the help of his uncle, he pulled a pike over a meter long from the water. “My hands were shaking with emotion because I realized that I had the fish of my life on my stick. Landing such a fish is always a critical moment, but my uncle did a great job,” he praised his relative.

The measuring tape showed 111 cm. “We took a few photos, and then the fish returned to the fishing spot. Will I be able to catch it again? If so, I hope that it will grow significantly by then,” concluded Mr. Marcin.
