The first ones to go to first place in a sanatorium under the National Health Fund. Who is entitled to it?

Sanatorium Równica w Ustroniu

Not all patients like company. Some people rest and regain their strength best in solitude. How to increase your chances of getting a single room?

When receiving a referral to a sanatorium from the National Health Fund, no one knows what room they will be accommodated in, because the National Health Fund does not allocate rooms. Also single rooms, which are most desired by patients.

The Ministry of Health explains: “Accommodation conditions are agreed directly with the spa treatment facility.” What exactly does this mean for therapy users?

Single room and special conditions of stay. Confirmation from a doctor

The demand for single rooms is very high, and most sanatoriums have a limited number of such rooms, so they need to be allocated as soon as possible. Immediately after receiving the referral, you must contact the sanatorium as soon as possible and submit an application for a single room.

Not every patient has the same chance for a single room. In many sanatoriums, priority is given to people whose health condition requires greater privacy or special conditions of stay.

Staying in a shared room will be embarrassing for people with a stoma, mastectomy, limb amputation, or sleep apnea requiring the use of a breathing machine, so people with these conditions have priority to stay in single rooms over other guests.

But merely mentioning the disease is not enough. It is necessary to present a certificate from a specialist doctor confirming the medical indications.

How much for a single room with a bathroom? Higher partial payment

If there are few rooms in the center and there are a lot of people with indications, the order in which applications are received will determine the allocation of a single room, therefore contacting the sanatorium in advance, submitting a complete application and attaching medical documentation may significantly increase the chances of receiving “one room”.

It should be remembered that a single room “under the National Health Fund” also means higher costs for the stay. Treatment and procedures are free of charge, but the patient pays a partial contribution for accommodation and meals. In the spring and summer season (season I), a stay in a single room with a bathroom costs more than in the second season, i.e. autumn and winter:

  • Season I: PLN 32.60 per day – approximately PLN 684.60 for the entire stay in 2026

  • Season II: PLN 40.90 per day – approximately PLN 858.90 for the entire stay in 2026

A single room without a bathroom is cheaper, although the difference is not great:

  • Season I: PLN 24.90 per day – approximately PLN 522.90 for the stay in 2026

  • Season II: PLN 33.20 per day – approximately PLN 697.20 per stay in 2026

Hence the great success of single rooms in sanatoriums.
