The fans demand it. The Polish national team will not play like that, however

The discussion about the system in which the Polish football team plays its matches, continues at the work of each subsequent coach. In the past, this slightly deeper, usually optimal setting was the one in which the syndrome functioned tactically in the structure 1-4-4-2.

The World Cup in 2018, at which the team was led by coach Adam Nawałka, but there was a time of changes. After a successful Euro 2016, the coach decided to bet on three defenders, making a tactical revolution. Unfortunately, for the national team, it ended with a large disappointment and after the quarter -finals of the European Championships, Poles did not manage to leave the group to the cup phase during the World Cup.

Was the reason for these problems to change the tactical setting? It could have been one of the components, but it does not seem in total that only the tactic itself is crucial here. This, moreover, showed the following years and many experiments.

The Triple Przydrz also plays the three defenders. A few exceptions, where the representation under the guidance of this coach could be seen in the setting with the “four” on the back, for example, half of the away match with Portugal, which Poles lost high, as much as 1: 5. That, a difficult experience in the division and in the UEFA league, certainly gave the thoughtful to the Prdyk. However, it should be remembered that the setting changed mainly due to problems with Poles’ injuries during the meeting.

Will the selector again try to play in the set 1-4-4-2 in the matches with the listed rivals, i.e. the loved ones with Lithuania and Malta? Not much indicates this.

– Many ask about the four in defense. I am not in love with any game system. I adapt footballers to what we have. Even if we would like to play four now, we would have to give Matty Cash as a helper, the next defender, as a helper and then these players do not play in their positions. And secondly, I think that this game system, which we prefer today, is better for many players, they can present themselves in it better. That is why I took such actions. In all my career in various settings I played and always adapted players to how to play. The other way around, I have something in my head and I just want to play because it suits me. And this is the moment that I would like to play with great pleasure if you find me five Polish wingers playing in Europe or Poland, I would be delighted and willingly changed this setting. But they are simply not today – he admitted during the Thursday conference.

Let us add that Paweł Dawidowicz will certainly not appear in the match against Lithuania, as the selector informed. The pronter also indicated number 1 in the Poles’ goal. As expected, this function will be performed by experienced Łukasz Skorupski.

World Cup 2026: Poles start fighting in the World Cup qualifying

When exactly the Polish national team will play their matches? The elimination path begins during the March grouping. Poland will play on Friday (i.e. 21.03) with Lithuania and Monday (i.e. 24.03) with Malta. Both meetings will take place at PGE Narodowy in Warsaw. The beginning of both matches at 20:45.

The broadcasts will be carried out by TVP1 and TVP Sport. Online fans will be able to watch Poles’ matches on the TVP Sport website, or via the station application. These will be the first meetings on the way to the 2026 World Cup, which will take place next year in three countries: USA, Mexico and Canada.
