A unique offer has appeared on the real estate market – a modernist villa designed by Romuald Gutt, one of the greatest Polish architects of the 20th century. The house, located in the Professor Cologne in Warsaw’s Powiśle, was put up for sale for PLN 39 million. This means the price is close 98 thousand PLN per square meterwhich can make this property the most expensive modernist villa in Poland.

History of Willa Gutt

The building was built in 1926 as the family home of the architect, his wife and four children. Gutt used in it a characteristic gray cement brick, which gave a block of severity and cut it off from the Dworkowa’s dominant professor in Cologne. The villa was created surrounded by the garden, which the architect designed together with Alina Scholtz, one of the most important Polish landscape architect.

Thanks to the expressive form and uncompromising style, the house remains a symbol of the Warsaw modernism of the 1920s to this day.

Architecture and interiors after renovation

The recently completed general renovation was restored by the villa of the former splendor, at the same time emphasizing its modernist character. On the ground floor there is a spacious living room decorated in the former Gutta studio, kitchen with dining room, room with a fireplace and a guest bedroom. A unique solution is a car elevator leading directly to the garage in the basement.

The floors are housed by private apartments – bedrooms, bathrooms, a study and a wardrobe. At the second level there is an additional bedroom and a large terrace, and the basement is planned with utility facilities with a laundry, boiler room and technical rooms.

Romuald Gutt – master of Polish modernism

Romuald Gutt (1888–1974) is considered one of the most important creators of Polish architecture of the 20th century. He was a co -author of many public utility projects, including Warsaw School of Nursing at Koszykowa, a building at ul. Wawelska (currently the seat of the National School of Public Administration) or the building of the Central Statistical Office at Aleja Niepodległości. After the war, he served as the first dean of the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology and a member of the Supreme Council of the Reconstruction of Warsaw.
