The famous Polish attraction is closed throughout the holidays. The reason was a landslide

The technological miracle in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship will be closed. We will not use this famous attraction during the holidays.

This is the last moment to take advantage of the famous attraction in Koronowo. Due to a landslide that occurred last year, the narrow-gauge railway bridge will be closed for several months. Therefore, neither pedestrians nor cyclists will be able to use the tallest structure of this type in Europe during the holidays. This decision aroused considerable emotion among Internet users. “How can you close a path during the months when it is busiest? Koronowo is shooting itself in the foot,” reads one of the comments on Facebook. As Gazeta Pomorska writes, some people believe that the landslide is located at a safe distance and does not pose a threat to road users.

The bridge in Koronowo is closed

The narrow-gauge railway bridge over the Brda River in Koronowo has been delighting residents and tourists for decades. It is one of the tallest structures of this type in Europe, offering walkers and cyclists phenomenal views of the river located eighteen meters below. The path leading here was marked out in 2014, 44 years after the closure of train traffic on the narrow-gauge Bydgoszcz – Koronowo line.

The new bicycle route quickly gained recognition. Now, however, people who wanted to use it will have to be patient, due to work on the landslide. “We would like to inform you that due to the signing of the contract with the contractor of the task entitled ‘Securing the slope at the narrow-gauge railway bridge in Koronowo’ and the commencement of works, the bicycle path, including the bridge, will be closed on April 13,” informed the Koronowo authorities. Securing the slope may last until August, which means the route will be closed to traffic for the entire summer.

Residents are not happy

Closing the narrow-gauge railway bridge has consequences not only for tourism. It turns out that the residents of the commune are also outraged by the decision. “Many people commute to work by bike, riding over the narrow-gauge railway bridge. Moreover, for the inhabitants of Okole, it is the shortest way to get to the city,” writes Gazeta Pomorska. They point out that the commune should start renovations earlier, before the season starts. However, the authorities explained that the condition for starting work was dry ground, and it was not possible in winter or early spring.
