The famous Olympic champion has died. She was a great legend of world sport
Sad news from the world of sports. Agnes Keleti died at the age of 103. The Hungarian gymnast was the world’s oldest Olympic champion.
Agnes Keleti is a unique figure in world sport. The gymnast from Budapest won as many as ten Olympic medals in her extensive career. Five of these discs from the collection of the Hungarian gymnastics champion are the most valuable metal.

Keleti was close to winning even more Olympic medals. Due to injuries, the Hungarian was unable to compete at the 1948 Olympics. Her debut took place four years later (1952), in Helsinki. Keleti then won her first gold in the so-called free exercises. Additionally, the Hungarian added silver in the team all-around and two bronze medals – in the parallel bars competition and in exercises with equipment, in the team version.
Four years later, during the Olympic Games in Melbourne (1956), Keleti won four gold(!) medals. In free exercises, parallel bars, balance beam and exercises with equipment – in teams. Additionally, the Hungarian added two silver medals, in the all-around individual and in the team.
Keleti is considered one of the best competitors in the history of gymnastics. Apart from her absolutely unique sports achievements, the Hungarian has gone through a lot in her life outside of sports. Due to her Jewish origins, she was, among others, excluded from all sports activities during the war. Keleti herself also miraculously escaped the German death camps, where hundreds of thousands of Jews – in this case – from Hungary, died.
Keleti died on January 2 at the age of 103. This is a huge loss for the global Olympic movement. Keleti was the world’s oldest Olympic champion. Keleti spent most of her life, after her Olympic successes, in Israel.
