A Polish health resort is getting ready for a big New Year’s Eve party. This time, however, the celebration in Szczawnica will look completely different than before. For the first time, a famous resort decided to give up fireworks. However, this does not mean that visitors will be bored on the last night of December. The city is planning a unique show of colorful lasers that will flash in the sky at midnight.

“This year we want New Year’s Eve without fireworks” – this is what the residents of the spa town decided, according to the Szczawnica city and commune office. In a publicly available survey, over 65 percent were in favor of abandoning the well-known form of celebrating the arrival of the new year. “We understand that for the rest of you, fireworks are part of the New Year’s night, but we are introducing something unique – a spectacle that will delight, without noise and in harmony with nature,” officials announced via Facebook. This year’s show will be no less rich in attractions than the previous ones, thanks to the laser show, which is increasingly replacing traditional shooting in other cities. “Residents said that fireworks are not good for animals or seniors, and their voice is important to us. Hence the idea for lasers,” said the mayor of Szczawnica, Bogdan Szewczyk, in an interview with Eska.
Better fun than in Zakopane?
These are not the only changes that await tourists in the mountains on the last night of 2024. For the first time in years, the capital of the Polish Tatra Mountains will not organize a major event. This year, the party in Szczawnica will probably not resemble the “New Year’s Eve of Dreams”, but this may change in the coming years. “Our event will be in a highland-folk style. At this point, it is difficult to say whether we will continue to move in this direction. Much depends on interest. If it becomes really popular, we will have to follow suit,” adds the mayor in an interview with the radio station.
New Year’s Eve in Szczawnica is also an opportunity to use the winter facilities of the spa. In the season, you will find ready-made slopes for skiers, skiing hills and ice rinks. We cannot forget about the rich offer of hotels and SPA treatments for patients.
