The Christmas market in the Old Town in Warsaw has started. How much will we spend on delicacies? Residents learned about this year’s product prices.

How much should you pay for a grilled sausage at a fair in Warsaw this year? It turns out that even 25 percent more. A week before the official opening, there was a Christmas zone in the Warsaw Old Town. Residents could already find out the prices of gastronomic and handicraft products. According to reports from Radio Eska reporters, it is more expensive than last year.

Prices can be shocking

PLN 40 for a sausage, a minimum of PLN 35 for a slice of bread, the same amount for a bowl of sour rye soup – these are the prices that residents of the capital and tourists visiting Piotr Biegański’s Christmas market at Międzymurze must be prepared for. Therefore, it is much more expensive than in Łódź, where, depending on the size of the portion, you will pay from PLN 18 to PLN 30 for grilled meat, and PLN 20 for a portion of bigos. However, the Warsaw fair is neither much larger nor richer, which may contribute to the growing dissatisfaction with too high prices. Compared to last year, in the case of gastronomy, they are up to 25 percent higher. Still, some people seem delighted with the holiday spirit. “We like it very much, the things are fantastic and the scents are wonderful. The appearance is impressive, it’s so festive,” said one of the tourists in an interview with Radio Eska, who came to the capital from Łódź.

These products are the cheapest

Even in Warsaw, fair stalls will feature products for which we will pay PLN 10 or less. A banknote with the image of Mieszko I is enough to buy a portion of red borscht without any additives. Chocolate-covered fruit costs slightly more, about PLN 15. Oscypek cheese with cranberries will cost us PLN 8, provided we only take a small portion. However, such snacks are not suitable for a full meal. The best alternative to gastronomy at the fair may be dinner at one of the restaurants in the Old Town and then a walk along the trail of Christmas decorations.
