The “experiment” with AI at OFF Radio Kraków ended prematurely. “Goal achieved”
Radio Kraków announced the end of the “experiment”, which caused a wave of comments on the Internet. The idea was to replace the employees of the thematic channel with artificial intelligence.
When OFF Radio Kraków fired 12 people and announced that from now on, programs would be created by artificial intelligence, there was an uproar in social media. Some Internet users mocked this idea, others were outraged by the replacement of humans by AI.
Argument about AI on OFF Radio Kraków
“The case of OFF Radio Kraków is an important reminder for the entire industry and a dangerous precedent affecting people of the media and culture as well as listeners,” commented Mateusz Demski, associated with the station, attacking the editor-in-chief Marcin Pulit.
“In my opinion, this man has nothing to do with journalism or this profession – there are many indications that he will be remembered for this; that he transformed public media into a testing ground,” he said. He also created a petition in defense of the radio, addressing it to the Commissioner for Human Rights, the National Broadcasting Council and the Media Ethics Council.
“We appeal for the return of OFF Radio Kraków in the form in which listeners have known it for years. For programs created with passion and commitment, based on in-depth and involved conversations and, above all, on meetings,” we could read in the content of the petition.
OFF Radio Kraków. The “experiment” is over
About a week after the scandal broke, Marcin Pulit announced the end of the “experiment”. As he assured, “the goal has been achieved.” He also expressed surprise at the interest in the case and the violent comments from Internet users.
“We were also surprised by the level of emotions that accompanied this experiment, the attribution of non-existent intentions and actions to us, and harsh judgments based on false reports,” he emphasized. He recalled that the aim was to trigger a substantive discussion on AI.
One of the entries ending this stage in OFF Radio Kraków was titled on Facebook “What we learned about AI and ourselves – summary of the experiment”. We read in it that from the beginning it was a project that was intended to be a voice in the debate on the opportunities and threats posed by the development of artificial intelligence.
“The mission of public radio is to carefully observe the changing reality, ask questions, and provoke discussions about civilization challenges. This was the goal of the radio experiment, which was part of the debate under the slogan “Artificial Intelligence”. What gives us, what takes away from us? And it worked,” we read.
