The crisis came to the next holiday region. Due to high prices, tourists no longer want to come here.

Why go on vacation in Europe if you can have all inclusive at the Caribbean at the same price? Many Portuguese comes out of this conviction, who instead of booking a hotel in the Algarve prefer a trip overseas. This is not strange in this, because, according to the British media, the seaside region ceases to be friendly for tourists with medium portfolio resources. This translates into occupancy in hotels, which this season is lower than expectations.

Algarve too expensive for tourists

Hotel covering in Algarve already exceeds 80 percent, but the hoteliers expected more in the most famous coastal region. “The beaches are far from full,” writes the British Daily Express. It is tourists from this country that most often visit the south of Portugal and see how prices change over the years. It is also too expensive for the Portuguese themselves, who, from a trip to a loud Albufeira, prefer holidays in an exotic resort overseas. “According to data provided by the National Association of Travel Agencies, the cost of the week of holidays between Albufeira and Vilamoura, from June to August, can exceed EUR 1,500. Meanwhile, in the Caribbean for this amount, you could stay in a five-star hotel with an all-inclusive option”-reads.

Not only the Caribbean

Not only the Dominican Republic, but also Mexico or nearby Tunisia and Morocco are popular among Portuguese guests. The Cape Verde Republic is also an important direction – a place still relatively undiscovered by Polish tourists, which is increasingly appearing in the offers of travel agencies.

Despite the decrease in reservation, the problem of excessive tourism is still present in Algarve. It also applies to the capital of the country. “I don’t have neighbors, even though I live in the middle of a large city,” said one of the residents of Lisbon for The Guardian. Although he lives in a building in the city center, every second premises are rented through platforms such as Airbnb.
