The European champion has just finished her career. A great loss for Polish sport
On Friday (December 6), the Polish Athletics Association announced that Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz-Zawadzka had ended her career. She is a medalist of the European Championships and World Championships.
The athlete turned 30 in January 2024. Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz-Zawadzka has many athletics successes to her credit. Leading by medals at the most important events such as world and European championships.
Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz-Zawadzka has finished her career!
The Pole represented Poland twice at the Olympic Games. This took place in London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016). The athlete did much better in Brazil, where ultimately in the 400-meter run, Wyciszkiewicz-Zawadzka finished in the semi-final (52.51), and with the 4×400-meter relay she reached the final. In it, the Polish women achieved seventh place with a time of 3:27.28.
It was in the 400-meter distance that Wyciszkiewicz-Zawadzka felt best. Already in her youth career, the Pole won gold, both individually and in the 4×400 meters relay – this took place in 2013 – during the Junior European Championships.
As a senior, it is worth mentioning the success in the form of gold during the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 2017, again in the relay. A few months later, again as a team, the Poles, together with Wyciszkiewicz-Zawadzka, won the bronze medal at the World Championships in London.
The last big success was in 2019, the World Championships in Doha, where in the 4×400 meters relay the Poles took second place with a time of 3:21.89. Wyciszkiewicz-Zawadzka is one of the players who was among the wide group of athletics powerhouses that have emerged in recent years, dominated by, among others, Matusiński’s Angels.
Unfortunately, ending her career at the age of 30 was the result of health problems that plagued the athlete. Wyciszkiewicz-Zawadzka suffered, among others: rupture of the peroneal tendon. For this reason, the athlete did not go to the Olympic Games in Paris (2024). It is worth adding that last year the Pole competed at the world championships in Budapest.
