The end of the plant in southern Poland. The production line went to Brazil and the company will continue production there
The production plant that provided work for over 700 people disappeared from the map of Bielsko-Biała. The machines sailed to Brazil, where Stellantis will continue production. Unfortunately, its place will not be taken by another manufacturing concern – office buildings are to be built in place of the halls.
In September, we reported that the Stellantis production plant in Gliwice was planning to reduce employment by 500 people – due to the reduced number of orders, the third shift was announced to be eliminated. The name may mean nothing to the average Internet user, but Stellantis is the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world. This global concern was created from the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group. It manages many well-known brands such as Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Opel, Lancia, Jeep, Ram, Chrysler, Maserati and Dodge.
The end of the Stellantis factory in Bielsko-Biała. There is no longer a production line
The concern owns dozens of factories around the world, including: the mentioned plant in Gliwice and the Powertrain factory in Bielsko-Biała, where production ended in spring this year. The website Bielsko-Biała.pl reports that the process of liquidation of the plant where combustion engines was produced has just been completed. As part of the restructuring, the production line was transported to Brazil and the industrial complex was sold to a development company for EUR 25 million.
In the first phase, 300 employees were dismissed, and in the next stage another 470 people lost their jobs. Some of the crew received an offer to transfer to other factories belonging to the international concern Stellantis.
The FCA Powertrain factory in Bielsko-Biała was established in 2003. Since then, it has produced over 7.3 million engines. The plant specialized in the production of modern diesel and gasoline engines. These engines were used in various car models of the FCA group (which became part of Stellantis), such as Fiat, Jeep, and in vehicles of the GM and Suzuki brands.
The entire technological line for the production of drive units was dismantled and transported by sea to the Stellantis factory. Engine production will continue in the city of Betim.
What about the area after the Stellantis factory?
What next with the area after the plant? Initially, Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa was interested in the industrial complex. The infrastructure of the plant in Bielsko-Biała is perfectly adapted to heavy industry. The factory had extensive electrical connections, a railway siding and specialized industrial infrastructure, including overhead cranes. The company analyzed the possibility of taking over the land, but ultimately abandoned the investment.
Industrial traditions will not be continued here: instead of a new plant, an office complex will probably be built. The owner of the FCA Powertrain production halls is DL Invest Group from Katowice, specializing in the implementation of real estate projects. Unofficially, it is said that the new investor paid the equivalent of EUR 25 million for the plot.
