The end of Iga Świątek’s dreams! The worst possible scenario has come true

Iga Świątek

Barbora Krejcikova blocked Iga Świątek’s path to the semi-finals of the WTA Finals 2024. In the last group match, the Czech defeated Coco Gauff quite easily in two sets.

It must be admitted that Polish fans looked with great hopes at the events that were to take place on the last day of the WTA Finals group tournament in Riyadh. After Iga Świątek won over Daria Kasatkina at an express pace, Poland had to wait for a smile from fate and a victory for Coco Gauff. The same one with whom Świątek lost the group match.

Barbora Krejcikova advances to the WTA Finals semi-finals!

What’s more, the American faced Barbora Krejcikova, the tennis player whom Świątek defeated in the group competition. However, as we have seen many times, match after match is not the same. The Czech, having everything in her hands, showed that she is a top-class player.

Krejcikova defeated Gauff 7:5, 6:4, thanks to which she won the group and eliminated Świątek from the competition in Riyadh. Moreover, the winner of Wimbledon (2024) pushed the American to second place. Thanks to this, Gauff will play in Friday’s semi-final against Aryna Sabalenka, the leader of the world lists. In the case of Krejcikova, she will face Qinwen Zheng.

Gauff clearly didn’t have her day, performing much worse against the Czech than against Świątek. Perhaps the match with the Pole was additional motivation for the tennis player, who is only 20 years old, and has an extremely unfavorable record (2:11) against this opponent.

Iga Świątek and all her championship titles

In her career so far, the Pole has won a total of 22 championship titles on courts almost all over the world.

Świątek won five Grand Slams, four times at Roland Garros (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024) and once at the US Open (2022). To this should be added the prestigious triumph in the WTA Finals (2023).

In addition, wins in WTA 1000 tournaments in: Rome (2021, 2022, 2024), Doha (2022 and 2024), Indian Wells (2022 and 2024), Miami (2022), Beijing (2023) and Madrid (2024) ). The list also includes WTA 500 competitions: Adelaide (2021), Stuttgart (2022 and 2023), San Diego (2022) and the aforementioned Doha (2023). Plus a Polish accent, WTA 250 in Warsaw (2023).

After the Olympic tournament in Paris (2024), a bronze medal of the Games should be added to this list. The first disc in the history of Polish Olympics taken from competition on tennis courts.
