Sklep Wokulskiego na Krakowskim Przedmieściu

This news will please Warsaw residents who did not have time to go to the set of “Lalka”. For a few more months, you will be able to see a key element of the set design here – Wokulski’s store.

Production plan for the new film adaptation of “The Doll” directed by Maciej Kawalski changed Warsaw for a few weeks and became a tourist attraction. During work on the film, the Krakowskie Przedmieście crossing was closed for two weeks, until Wednesday, October 22. Horse-drawn carriages passed along the street, the actors were dressed in period costumes, and the shop signs were covered with stylized ones written in Cyrillic.

In the afternoon and evenings, after the shooting, many Warsaw residents and tourists came here to admire the elements of the set and travel back in time to the 19th century. The climate has been special in recent days. The filmmakers provided artificial snow on the street.

Wokulski’s shop will be available for a longer period of time

A key element The set design was the Wokulski Shop, which was built next to the Copernicus Monument – not only the façade was created, but also the interiors were meticulously recreated, including the impressive office of the novel’s hero. Although the work in this place is over, at the request of Warsaw residents, the attraction will stay here longer – until February 2026. The store can only be viewed from the outside.

In an interview with PAP, the director emphasized that this is the so-called practical set design, unique in the scale of contemporary cinema. “Sometimes filmmakers put up the facade of a building to create the impression of a world that no longer exists. However, what happens very, very rarely is to create the facade of a building with the entire practical, functional interior, which is about 300 square meters.” – he said.
