The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense warns: Russia may try to sabotage in Poland

The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense, Stanisław Wziątek, warned that Poland must take into account sabotage, cyberattacks and provocations from Russia.

On Wednesday, during a visit to the Military Aviation Academy in Dęblin, the Deputy Minister of National Defense was asked about the scale of the threat from Russia. He confirmed that such a risk exists, and Poland also received signals on this matter from its allies, including the United States. Wziątek emphasized that the services and the state remain vigilant. He pointed out that threats may take various forms – from sabotage and cyberattacks to actions aimed at facilities that are key to the functioning of the state.

Deputy Minister of National Defense: Russia’s goal is to be fear and division

According to the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defence, Russia may try to carry out actions that will have not only a real but also a psychological effect. The idea is to reinforce tension, the sense of threat and social divisions.

As he assessed, there is a very high risk of Russian provocations intended to divide Poles and weaken unity not only in Poland, but also in NATO and the European Union. He emphasized that the response to such actions should be resilience and avoidance of provocations.

– We can expect provocations that will quarrel us even more; they are supposed to build fear and disunity not only in Poland, but in NATO and the EU. We must be resilient and not allow ourselves to be provoked – warned the deputy minister, quoted by the Strefa Defense website.

American soldiers will return to the number before the changes

The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense also referred to the presence of US troops in Poland. He informed that a new rotation of American forces has been announced, including from 4,000 to 5,000. soldiers. This means a return to the level of approximately 10-11 thousand. soldiers stationed in Poland on a rotation basis.

He also added that an important signal is the readiness of the United States to talk about a permanent military base. According to Wziątek, the analysis of the number of soldiers, type of troops and location of stationing is to be completed by the end of the year. He initially indicated that the base could be built in the western part of the country.

New investment in Dęblin

The statement by the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense was made during the opening of the so-called Pilot’s Cottage at the Military Aviation Academy. The new facility will support flight crew training, mission planning and pre- and post-flight briefings. The investment cost over PLN 25 million.
