The Czech carrier is withdrawing from Poland. “Something just doesn’t add up here.”

Pociąg RegioJet

The Czech carrier RegioJet gave up quite quickly in the fight for our market and is giving up on conquering Poland. Expert Adrian Furgalski admits that he is surprised by such a decision.

The Czech company RegioJet entered the Polish market in September 2025. As it turns out, she only lasted a few months. At the end of April, it will withdraw from operating domestic routes, including: Kraków-Warsaw, Poznań-Warsaw or Warsaw-Gdynia. It will remain only for international connections, for example to Prague.

RegioJet withdraws from Poland. “This whole situation is quite strange.”

As the company explains, the basis for this decision was limited access to infrastructure and price pressure imposed by PKP Intercity. The Czechs have already announced that they will refund passengers for their tickets. However, the translations do not convince Adrian Furgalski. The president of ZDG TOR and a transport specialist talked about this topic with “Fakt”.

— I think this whole situation is quite strange. The president of RegioJet is making a lot of fuss about this. The company has been preparing for years to enter our market, and after a few months it gives up. Something just doesn’t add up here, he admitted.

– Stories that wherever the competition enters, someone sprinkles flowers in front of the trains – no, it’s not like that. There are always some frictions, there are always blockades from those who already operate in the market. This has been and will be the case and it must be taken into account in the business plan, he emphasized.

Adrian Furgalski about RegioJet’s decision

He is also not entirely convinced by the arguments given by RegioJet. According to him, limiting advertising or ticket sales, e.g. at the Central Station, is not the main reason for withdrawing from the market. Likewise with lowering prices.

– After all, the president of RegioJet himself boasted earlier that everywhere he goes, prices are falling. This is a natural effect of competition. It’s hard to complain that it worked exactly the same in Poland, he noted.

— When it comes to technical resources, yes, it is a difficult topic, but since it was impossible to create it in one place, we had to look for it in four others. It costs money, it takes time. This is a process, not something that happens immediately, Furgalski reminded.

– You can give the example of Leo Express, which is slowly increasing its offer on our market. So it’s possible. There are various models of cooperation, for example agreements regarding emergency situations, mutual honoring of tickets – all this can be worked out. Therefore, it is difficult to treat all these reasons as serious, he pointed out.
