The cute Greek island will end like Mykonos? “It will be too late soon”

Wyspa Paros

The peaceful days of this Greek island are already counted. It seems that soon there will be parties and mass tourism here.

A trip to Mykonos and Santorini in a high holiday season is today a hell for those who are looking for a quiet place for vacation. Dominated by party people from Western Europe, both islands have achieved a spectacular success, which today has its high price. No wonder that more Greek tourist pearls are afraid of repeating the script. In the crosshairs of tourists looking for night adventures is now the island of Paros, until recently considered an idyllic refuge of real Greek culture.

Paros will change into Mykonos

Crowds that have been tempted by celebrities to travel to Mykonos and Santorini, now follow the online influencers to Paros. Inhabitants of the island, which experiences the peak of popularity since the premiere of the hit of Netflix “One Day”, are afraid of the influx of tourists seeking good fun. “About half a million people come every summer, which means that today’s tourists are rather no more than a piece of sand, not to mention the whole beach,” writes The Telegraph, reminding that at the end of the last century this island was known by virtually no one.

Over the past decades, the unique Greek culture has been replaced by expensive restaurants and fashionable beach clubs full of tinsel. Residents point out that Paros is expanding at an extreme pace. “You see it on crowded streets, in traffic jams, including how people seem stressed,” says Nikos Botsinis, a local entrepreneur.

This is the key to sustainable tourism

Some, however, see the island in greater popularity, not a threat. It is all about not accumulating foreign guests in one or two resorts, but to arrange tourist traffic evenly in different parts of the island. It is equally important to take care of affordable prices, which families with children will also attract to the island. “Paros must remain hospitable, not exclusive,” we read.
