The crisis of the Polish ski jumping team continues. “I don’t remember when I jumped so badly”
This is not how you could have imagined the start of the Summer Grand Prix season in ski jumping. The Polish representatives on the hill in Wisła were far from the podium.
This year’s Summer Grand Prix series consists of ten competitions in total. The first one, on 13 and 14 August, was the competition in Courchevel. The winner of the last winter season, Austrian Stefan Kraft, was definitely the best there. The next part was the fight on the Adam Małysz ski jump in Wisła.
Summer Grand Prix: Marius Lindvik’s Double. Poor performance by Poles
In Saturday’s competition, the best in Wisła was Marius Lindvik. Second place was taken, quite unexpectedly, by Artti Aigro. The Estonian managed to fly 130 and 135.5 meters, something that Polish competitors could only dream of during the weekend. The podium was completed on Saturday by the Swiss Gregor Deschwanden.
The best of the Poles was Aleksander Zniszczoł, in eighth place. In addition, Dawid Kubacki, who took ninth place, Jakub Wolny was 11th, Kamil Stoch 16th. It is hard to even mention the rest…
A day later Lindvik was again the best. The best of the Poles, Paweł Wąsek, was 7th. The top ten was closed by Zniszczoł, a ski jumper who was the only one who could look at the result with his head held high in the previous winter season. Although the Pole, to put it mildly, was not satisfied with himself after his performance in Wisła.
Let’s add that many well-known figures from the top of the World Cup, who play significant roles in winter, were absent from Poland this weekend. And despite this, the Poles still failed to stand on the GP podium – not even one.
– I expected much more from myself. I don’t remember when I jumped so badly. A bit of position, a bit of take-off direction and this threshold simply didn’t give me the strength I tried to put in (…) A bucket of cold water, but maybe even better. Now is a very important period, which you have to work hard and fight to the end – Zniszczoł did not hide his disappointment in front of Eurosport cameras after Sunday’s competition.
The next Summer Grand Prix competitions are on September 21 and 22 in Rasnov, Romania.
