The Copernicus Science Center is expanding its operations. A second building will be built
The authorities of Warsaw and the Masovian Voivodeship signed an agreement with the Copernicus Science Center to finance the construction of the Copernican Revolution Workshop, the second building of the Center, which will be built on the Vistula boulevards.
The Copernican Revolution Workshop, as the new project of the Copernicus Science Center is called, will expand its activities to include research and development. Its aim is to change the approach to teaching and acquiring competences among young people, which will allow them to function better in today’s world.

The building will be built in the place of the current garden stretching from the Świętokrzyski Bridge to the current building of the Copernicus Science Center.
PPK will be an open, interdisciplinary space filled with modern technologies. The Laboratory will be able to conduct research in fields such as mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics and mechatronics. Young people participating in the research will be able to use the latest technologies, such as 3D printers or Augmented Reality devices.
The signing of the financing agreement was attended by the Mayor of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, and the Marshal of the Masovian Voivodeship, Adam Struzik.
– On July 28, 2008, I broke the first shovel on the construction site of the Copernicus Science Center, which is one of the showcases of modern Warsaw. The Center inaugurated its operations in its new headquarters on November 5, 2010, which means that it celebrates its 8th birthday next Monday. I am very happy about the expansion of the CNK’s activities and the construction of the Copernican Revolution Workshop. The development of this institution is important for the harmonious development of the city and its inhabitants. Warsaw is a European metropolis, driven by the entrepreneurship, activity and involvement of its inhabitants. Architectural Concept
The Wrocław architectural studio Heinle, Wischer und Partner Architekci Sp. is responsible for the design of the new building. z o. o. As the designers point out, the building is to have a light, cuboid form with an original façade made of air-filled ETFE membrane cushions. This will not only allow for the creation of a visually attractive building, but also for illuminating the interior with natural light and energy-saving, environmentally friendly energy management. The roof of the building will be covered with greenery. Part of it will also be covered with photovoltaic panels and installations allowing the use of rainwater.
The new building of the Copernicus Science Center will be built in 2021 and its construction will cost PLN 65 million. Over PLN 16 million will come from the Regional Operational Program of the Masovian Voivodeship for 2014-2020, slightly over PLN 19 million will be provided by Warsaw. The rest of the amount will come from the Centre’s own funds. The tender to select the general contractor will be announced in June 2019.
