The children did not fly out of Poland for the holidays. The problem was the passports
The Border Guard at the Katowice airport did not allow three children to board a plane to Tunisia. Although the minors had passports with them, officials noticed irregularities.
Three children and their guardian were not allowed to board because of incorrect passports of minor passengers. They found out about it just before the plane to Tunisia took off. Although the tourists had identity documents with them, the officials considered them incorrect. The reason for this decision was the dual, Polish-British citizenship of the traveling children. According to Border Guard employees, the young tourists should have both British and Polish passports with them.
The children did not go on holiday
A dream trip to Tunisia turned into a nightmare when the Border Guard at the airport in Katowice questioned the passports used by three children travelling from Poland to Enfidha with their guardian. Although the minors had British passports with them, they could not cross the border. All because of their dual citizenship. “We remind you that in accordance with the Polish Citizenship Act, a Polish citizen who also holds citizenship of another country has the same rights and obligations towards the Republic of Poland as a person who holds Polish citizenship,” explain employees of the Silesian Border Guard Unit.
In other words, both children and adults who have Polish citizenship and citizenship of another country are obliged to use a Polish passport, just like Poles without dual citizenship. Unfortunately, the three children detained in Katowice had only passports issued by a British authority and Polish identity cards (which were not sufficient for a flight to North Africa).
Invalid passport
Tourists have often found that even a small defect in a passport can completely ruin a holiday planned for many months. “I was refused entry to Bali last night. In Australia, they stopped me during the check and didn’t let me on my plane. I cried in front of everyone,” says a tourist who was turned away from check-in because the edges of her document were torn. Scratches and stains that seem invisible at first glance don’t have to, but can, be the reason for refusing entry or exit from the country. It is worth checking the condition of your passport and, if necessary, getting a new one. In the event of sudden damage to the document, you can also easily apply for a temporary passport at one of several airports in Poland.
