Passengers flying from Western Canada to Toronto did not expect their journey to end before take-off. The reason was not a plane breakdown or unfavorable weather, but the behavior of one of the youngest travelers. The child, who was traveling with one of his parents on Porter Airlines, refused to sit in his seat and fasten his seat belt, which triggered a whole series of problems. Everyone on board suffered the consequences.

The child ignored the staff’s instructions

This unusual event occurred on Thursday evening, August 6, at the airport in Victoria, British Columbia. Porter Airlines flight PD444 had already left the terminal and was heading towards the runway. Then it turned out that the child standing on the chair did not want to sit down. The parents and cabin crew repeatedly tried to calm them down and fasten them properly, but to no avail.

In this situation, the crew could no longer continue preparations for take-off. The pilot turned the plane back to the terminal, where the parent and child left the plane. It was also necessary to find and remove their luggage and prepare the flight documentation again. However, the procedures took much longer than initially expected. “There was a risk that the flight would be delayed by the runway closure, which was planned for 00:30,” writes The Independent.

Everyone had to leave the plane

The crew had no choice but to ask all passengers to disembark. Due to limited airport operating hours, the next flight to Toronto could not depart until the next day. The travelers were forced to spend one more night in British Columbia.

According to the passengers, the whole incident took far too long – the attempt to calm down the child, who was most likely very scared of the flight, lasted an hour. Now the travelers are demanding compensation for the damage suffered. According to The Independent, the carrier has refused to confirm at this point whether such funds will be paid to them.
