The chaplain of Nawrocki surprised. That’s what he said about Polish fans
Chaplain of President Karol Nawrocki, priest Jarosław Wąsowicz gave an interview to the Polish Press Agency. He spoke, among others About what politicians could learn from supporters.
Father Jarosław Wąsowicz as a multiple organizer of supporters’ pilgrimage to Jasna Góra was asked by PAP about this issue. “I’m just a fan, so when I became a priest, it was natural for me to serve people in my priesthood, among whom I find my roots,” he said.
The chaplain of President Nawrocki gave an interview
-Initially, pilgrimages gathered 200-300 fans, now thousands of them come every year. This is a phenomenon on a world scale, because the supporter’s environment is associated with various matters, but certainly not with religiosity – he noted.
There was also a question about stadium fights. – Among the fans, as in other environments, I see both good and evil. The fact is the competition between clubs, which often takes drastic forms. Violence behavior is a dark side of sport at all, not just the fan world. From ancient times there were fights at stadiums and they probably can’t be completely eliminated – he said.
– However, I see the biggest problem in the fact that no one sees the good side of this environment. If there is talk about fans somewhere in the media, then only in the context of fights, never in the context of patriotic and charity actions that fans engage in – emphasized Fr. Wąsowicz.
He pointed out that the pilgrimage to Jasna Góra gathers fans around common values. – This is an extraordinary experience that they could learn a lot, even politicians. Because you can disagree, but there should be some values and challenges important to all Poles, on which side of the political dispute they stand – he argued.
What does the chaplain of the president do?
He also told about his duties as a chaplain of the president. – The chaplain of the president does what every priest – celebrates the sacraments. Being a chaplain of the president is not a political function, associated with activities other than those that belong to the priest – he explained.
– As a chaplain, I celebrate the Holy Mass every day for employees of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland and try to participate in all major religious events in which the president and the first lady take part – he continued.
