The chałkonia phenomenon. “He turned out to be a beast whose power we underestimated.”

Chałkoń

The photo of the baker and the proud bakery employee generated millions of views. However, not everyone realized that it was created by artificial intelligence.

“This woman baked chałkonia but no one congratulated her” – it was written on January 7 on the Facebook profile with memes “Poland in large doses”. Since then, the photo of the woman with the impressive baked goods has collected 11,000 likes. reactions, over 1,400 comments and was shared 327 times.

Chałkoń is an Internet hit. There were followers

Chałkonia’s photo also generated a reach of one million, and this is only data from one profile. Other social media users have been known to “borrow” them and forward them online. There were also many people who decided to use the idea and created a chałkbook, chałwwy or, for example, a cinnamon armchair like IKEA.

All this using artificial intelligence. All you had to do was enter the appropriate command for the AI (Artificial Intelligence) to create very realistic images of non-existent people and their equally fantastic baked goods. The problem is that not everyone took it as a joke. Many people decided that outstanding confectioners actually deserved greater appreciation and sent congratulations in the comments.

Social media experts noticed that in this way huge traffic was generated on the Internet, which, of course, translated into financial issues. They warned that with the development of artificial intelligence, we will face more and more similar situations and appealed to make people less familiar with the Internet aware so that their naivety is not exploited.

Chałkonia’s creators warn against the power of AI

A longer entry was devoted to this issue by the Poland in large doses profile, which is where it all started. They explained how the “someone did X but no one congratulated him” meme works, motivating people to leave valuable comments. “Chałkoń turned out to be a beast whose power we underestimated. It works,” they wrote.

“It will only get worse. AI graphics will look more and more realistic, such content practically generates itself, you don’t need to make any special effort. If such an obvious Chałkoń works, imagine what numbers can be achieved on less exaggerated graphics with posts designed for specific target groups, e.g. elderly people. Such like farms can then be used in hundreds of ways and influence specific groups of recipients,” they pointed out.

“Talk to your family, make them aware that not every photo on the Internet is real, which has always been true, but thanks to the development of AI, the matter has gained enormous momentum,” they appealed.

“If we would like Chałkoń to somehow be remembered in the collective memory of Internet users, it would be less of a joke and more of a warning,” they added in the next entry, attaching a short video, also created by AI.
