The carrier drew conclusions from PKP’s problems. That’s his plan for the hot weather

The first summer heat wave in Poland at the end of June took its toll on rail passengers. High temperatures led to traction damage and there were problems with air conditioning. PKP Intercity provided special conditions for ticket returns (without deduction of compensation) for journeys between June 25 and July 2, 2026. Passengers were provided with water.

Refund for train tickets in hot weather

The Czech carrier Leo Express, which serves, among others, in Poland, decided to move ahead of the next heat wave. direct connection Warsaw-Kraków. It ensures that the journey on hot days will be comfortable.

“We regularly check and service the air conditioning systems to ensure they are fully operational in the summer. If an air conditioning failure occurs throughout the entire train, we provide passengers with compensation ranging from 25 to 150% of the ticket price in the form of Leo credits, depending on the scale of the problem. These can be used to purchase further tickets or snacks on board. The air conditioning is automatically adjusted to the outside temperature so that the difference between inside and outside does not exceed the recommended 5-7°C and does not caused thermal shock,” says Emil Sedlařík, press spokesman for Leo Express.

Leo Express will add disposable soluble electrolyte tablets to emergency supplies of bottled water, which, when dissolved in water, help replenish fluids and reduce the risk of dehydration.

Air conditioning in Leo Express trains

Before departure, Leo Express trains are cooled so that the interior is comfortable the moment you enter. “If necessary, the carrier also uses additional solutions, such as airing through open windows or shading with curtains and blinds where the structure of the wagons allows. Some trains are additionally equipped with their own emergency power source, which helps maintain air conditioning operation even in the event of a power outage. Leo Express is also testing further technologies to improve thermal comfort, including water mist sprayers and fans,” we read in the release.

When will the heat return in Poland?

At the end of this week, temperatures in Poland are expected to rise again. IMWM forecasts that on Thursday, July 16, thermometers in the west of the country will reach a maximum of 29 degrees Celsius, and on Friday they will reach 32 degrees. On Saturday, it will be the warmest in the central part of the country.
