The captain of the Polish national team returns to PlusLiga! Will there be a game for gold?
After two seasons outside the PlusLiga – and a short medical transfer – Aleksander Śliwka officially returns to the PlusLiga. Staying in PGE Projekt Warszawa.
It so happens that the club that Aleksander Śliwka joined at the end of the 2025/26 season has now officially become the volleyball player’s employer – for at least the next two years. Let us recall that the captain of the Polish national team returned to the PlusLiga from Turkey, and had previously played in the Japanese league.
At the end of last season, Śliwka supported PGE Projekt Warszawa, replacing the injured Bartosz Bednorz.
PlusLiga: Aleksander Śliwka returns to Poland! There is official confirmation
There was talk about the transfer of the experienced receiver to the capital club quite a few months ago. Śliwka, however, did not confirm his actual return to Poland, although indeed, it was on the PlusLiga court that the captain of the national team looked his best. Many fans probably remember the extraordinary time that the volleyball player spent in the ranks of ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.
In the colors of the club from the Opole region, Śliwka achieved, among others, three Champions League titles each (2021-23). Above all, however, he was a great example of a captain, which resulted in later decisions also in the national team.
Even during the last VNL tournament in Gliwice, coach Nikola Grbic argued how great the value of this volleyball player is.
– Bringing Aleksander Śliwka for two seasons is a clear signal of where we are aiming in European volleyball. We also remember perfectly well how much support his short stay at the end of last season was for us, when he quickly joined the team on a medical transfer. Olek is a leader, captain of the Polish national team and a man who knows perfectly well how to win the most valuable trophies. His character, incredible experience and sports skills perfectly match the high ambitions of the club – admitted Piotr Gacek, president of the management board and sports director of PGE Projekt Warszawa.
– I am glad that after a short stay in Warsaw at the end of last season as a medical transfer, I am now joining the team permanently. The club has high goals and sporting ambitions, just like me. I’m coming back with great motivation and I can’t wait to start preparations and the first matches in front of our fans – said Aleksander Śliwka.
In Warsaw, they gained a mental leader who usually fought for the highest goals in the teams in which he played. Interestingly, Śliwka played for the capital club in the 2014/15 season. Then he joined AZS Politechnika Warszawska, as a player on loan from Asseco Resovia Rzeszów. In addition, the above-mentioned medical transfer, i.e. approach number two, and now – slightly related to the second one – approach number three.
PGE Projekt Warszawa certainly wants to break the trends of recent seasons and advance to the grand final of PlusLiga. Will the club from the capital succeed in this feat? Certainly, players like Śliwka guarantee the fight for high goals. However, the competition from Zawiercie and Lublin has no intention of giving up anything to PGE Projekt.
Well. Therefore, it promises to be a very interesting PlusLiga season.
