The buses didn’t arrive. The passengers stayed on the plane overnight
It was only supposed to be a short flight from Munich to Copenhagen. Due to a series of unfortunate events, passengers were stuck on the plane all night.
An unusual situation occurred at the Munich airport on Thursday evening. The website extrabladet.dk reports that the Lufthansa flight (LH2446) was scheduled to depart for Copenhagen at 9:30 p.m., but there were delays.
Eventually, the passengers were allowed on board, where they waited for several hours until a depressing announcement came from the cockpit.
They spent the night on the plane
“Suddenly we found out that our flight was canceled. They simply won’t make it (take off – ed.) at the scheduled time,” Søren said. The 49-year-old Dane was returning from a holiday in Thailand with his wife and two children. This was to be their last stop on their journey home.
The airline spent the next several hours trying to find a bus that could transport passengers back from the plane to the terminal, but to no avail. Time passed and the bus did not arrive. “Every half an hour there was some information, but nothing specific. They kept saying that the buses might arrive in a moment or after some time,” the passenger recalls.
At 2 a.m. it turned out that there was no solution. Passengers heard that the airport was closed and all bus drivers went home. Per airport guidelines, they had to stay on board. The plane was only supposed to make a short flight, so the crew was not prepared for these circumstances. – We had neither food nor drink. There were no blankets for us either. And we have little children who couldn’t eat anything. They only had a few bottles of water, he said.
Passengers arrived at the terminal only in the morning. Many of them were rebooked on the first available flight that morning, which was delayed by an hour.
The line apologized
Lufthansa issued a statement in response to the daily’s question. “Due to the weather conditions on February 19, including heavy snowfall at Munich Airport, there was a temporary closure of the runway and significant delays in de-icing. As a result, yesterday (February 21 – ed.) there were delays and cancellation of flights. Passengers have already been transferred to the next available flight,” it said. “Lufthansa deeply regrets the inconvenience this situation has caused to passengers,” it added.
