The “Blue Forest” delights tourists. Only half an hour from the airport
Every year at the turn of April and May, tourists want to see the Blue Forest. This unique place is only 30 minutes from the airport.
Not all tourist attractions can be admired all year round. Some places show their most beautiful faces to tourists only at a specific, and often unfortunately short, time. One of them is the “Blue Forest” or Hallerbos Forest in Belgium. It is here that hyacinths bloom at the turn of April and May, turning the paths into carpets of flowers. Tourists can easily get here from both the main airport in Brussels and from the airport in Charleroi – in both cases it will take about 30 minutes by car.
Blue Forest is a hit of spring trips
If you are planning a city break in Belgium, it is worth supplementing your city trip plan with a moment of relaxation in nature. Hallerbos Forest, known simply as the “blue” or “blue” forest, encourages this. This is the most important and most extensive forest area located between the Zenne River and the Zoniën Forest. Tourists love this place because of the hyacinths that begin to bloom around mid-April, reaching a height of up to 40 centimeters. But spectacular flower carpets are not the only reason to visit this place. Guests (not only from Belgium) are also attracted by giant sequoias – a walk between large trees can calm you down and give you the feeling of escaping from civilization. It can get really crowded here on weekends, so the best time to go is on weekday mornings. Please note that you must stay on the paths when taking photos. “The soil and vegetation are delicate and very sensitive to trampling,” we read on the attraction’s website.
How to get here?
The good news for tourists is easy access. The best way is, of course, to rent a car – you can get here from both Brussels airports (Zaventem and Charleroi) in about 30-40 minutes. However, there is public transport for non-motorists. You should board the bus in the town of Halle, located south-east of the capital. The journey takes only 10 minutes. It is also possible to rent bicycles at the Halle station.
