The beach on the Baltic Sea has expanded 4.5 times. Changes at the Polish seaside also affected Łeba

Kuźnica, Półwysep Helski

Work on the Pomeranian coast resulted in widening the beach in Kuźnica from approximately 20 to 90 meters. Activities were also carried out in Łeba, and plans include the Hel Peninsula and Władysławowo.

Magdalena Kierzkowska, spokeswoman for the Maritime Office in Gdynia, informed the Polish Press Agency that the rebalancing process, which involved artificially feeding the shore with sand, was completed in mid-March. As she explained, “this allows us to preserve the natural character of the coast and effectively extinguish the energy of sea waves and maintain the natural processes taking place on the coast, as opposed to permanent fortifications.”

The effectiveness of the actions was confirmed by aerial monitoring. As we read, “where power supply has been carried out regularly recently, the effects persist, and sea currents spontaneously transport the deposited material, creating new sandbanks in neighboring locations.” In Kuźnica, the shore was strengthened on a section of 700 meters by over 160,000 cubic meters, which allowed the beach to be widened from about 20 to 90 m wide.

Before the holidays, work will also be carried out on the Hel Peninsula. Refilling works are also planned in Władysławowo, also on a section of approximately 700 m of the coast. In this case, the works according to the schedule “should be completed before the start of the summer season, although in the event of unfavorable weather conditions, they may be extended into July.”

Strongly eroded sections between Przegląd and Orzechowo in the Słupsk poviat and in the area of Gdynia Babie Doły also require power supply. In the last two locations, some of the work may be carried out during the summer, including: due to limited availability of specialized equipment and contractors’ logistic capabilities. In total, the estimated cost of work in 2026 was estimated at several million zlotys.
