The angler’s determination paid off. “The bite was great,” he caught a huge catfish

An angler from Lower Silesia caught a huge catfish. The angler admits that he has been “hunting” for several years for a specimen of this size.

Fishing enthusiast – Adrian Faluta – in an e-mail to the editorial office of the portal Wiadomości Wędkarskie described the adventure he experienced with his companions at Lake Mietkowski in early August.

The angler’s patience and perseverance paid off.

“The taking was atomic”

Faluta started the entire project by catching live bait. For this purpose, together with his colleagues, he placed sets in the nearby shallows.

Once they had the appropriate baits, they started “hunting” for a large specimen. The first to announce its presence in a water reservoir was a catfish about 120 centimeters long. He then caught a 40cm roach, which they placed in the water. Then another Silurus glanis took the bait, but this time it was 40 cm larger than the previous one.

When he saw it, the angler thought that “this could be the night you’ve been waiting for all your life, and the only thing that can interrupt your good streak is a lack of live fish.” However, no suitable baits could be caught until the morning. At that time, there was only one fishing rod with a small bream in the water, and – as the enthusiast admits – he hasn’t had any bites so far.

In the morning, after a good night’s sleep, when they returned to the place where the fishing took place, they saw the bait being attacked by a large fish. “The taking was nuclear. After the jam, a forceful recovery began, which lasted about 40 minutes. The struggle with the catfish took a toll not only on me – my equipment also suffered. The reel, although intended for catching large specimens, was only suitable for scrap. When I finally towed the catfish to the shore, we were shocked. A huge beast appeared before our eyes!” – describes the man.

How tall was the giant catfish? Unbelievable

After measuring, it turned out that the catfish was 240 cm long. “I hunted for such a fish for several years, I sat on the water for many weeks without being bitten. I didn’t give up because I believed that one day I would be able to make my dream come true. I realize how difficult it will be to break this record, but I will definitely try until I succeed,” emphasizes the hopeful angler.

In this context, it is worth mentioning another feat reported recently by Tomasz Dylewicz. He set a new Polish record by catching a crucian carp weighing 4.76 kilograms and 61 cm long. At the end of September, the man went to Lake Trzaskowo in Greater Poland.
