Terribly starving dogs in Józefów. “The worms ate them alive.”

The residents of Józefów near Otwock had been asking for intervention on Irena Z’s plot for years. Only the last inspection helped save some of the animals that were dying of hunger on the property occupied by the woman. Activists reporting on their activities did not spare shocking descriptions.

Representatives of the “Otwocki Zwierzyniec” association and the “Pańska Łaska” Animal Protection Foundation entered Irena Z.’s property on October 17. There they encountered macabre scenes. Animals were dying, eaten alive by worms. Not everyone managed to survive. Some died recently, others died years ago, and still others were in a state of advanced decomposition.

In total, 3 cats and 19 dogs were saved, including German shepherds, shih tzus and pointers. Unfortunately, 2 cats did not survive, and some of the dogs remain in a serious condition. Maja Ostrowska from the “Pańska Łaska” Animal Protection Foundation emphasized that these were “skeletons stretched with skin”. Irena Z. was detained by the police.

– She was charged with particularly cruelty to animals. She was also placed under police supervision and must report to the police station three days a week, said Junior Asp. in an interview with “Fakt”. Patryk Domarecki, press officer of the District Police Commander in Otwock.

On Saturday, October 19, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Otwock submitted a request to the court for temporary arrest for Irena Z. However, the District Court in Otwock did not consent. “Fact” established that the woman has not yet appeared at her home. – In a few days we will go there to check whether she has taken any more animals – emphasized Ostrowska.

As it was emphasized, some of the animals found in Józefów had chips. Activists suspect that the woman adopted pets from shelters or stole them. Currently, they are focusing on raising funds to help rescued animals. They talk about the difficult situation of a female Maltese dog who is struggling with a “serious condition of pyometra”.
