Terrible news about Paweł Zatorski. The Olympic runner-up confirmed that it was over
With a match in Będzin on December 9, 2024, Paweł Zatorski… ended his league season. The libero of Asseco Resovia and the national team must undergo surgery.
In recent days, there has been more and more talk about Paweł Zatorski’s premature end to the season. The Olympic vice-champion, the most successful volleyball player in the history of Polish national volleyball, has health problems again.
PlusLiga: End of the season for Paweł Zatorski. Terrible news!
During the Olympic tournament, the Polish libero was injured during the semi-final thriller against the Americans (3:2). The Poles finally won a pass to the final, and Zatorski managed to play both the entire match against the USA and take up the challenge in the gold medal game against the French (0:3).
However, it was no secret that Zatorski played in the Olympic final with a strong block, which relieved the pain but did not improve the health condition of the experienced libero. However, the Pole managed to return to the game after the Olympics, already as a club player, making further appearances for Asseco Resovia Rzeszów. Unfortunately, while Zatorski had a shoulder problem during the Olympic tournament, now he has an injured hip. This is a problem that “Zati” was struggling with even before leaving for Paris.
Effect? In Monday’s match against Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin, which Asseco Resovia won (3-1), Zatorski appeared on the pitch for the symbolic opening and then left the pitch. Why? Due to regulations. Zatorski has met the regulatory conditions thanks to which Resovia will be able to make the so-called medical transfer in place of the Olympic runner-up. Zatorski confirmed in an interview with Tomasz Swędrowski, journalist and commentator of Polsat Sport, that this was his last appearance in the 2024/25 season. The libero will undergo surgery next Friday, which will allow him to function normally and, additionally, allow him to continue playing volleyball.
After excluding Zatorski, the Rzeszów team has one healthy player in a very important position. Michał Potera is currently a libero in Asseco Resovia’s ranks. Solid player, certainly deserving of a chance to play over the course of the season. However, it is difficult to suspect that Resovia would not take advantage of the above-mentioned transfer, strengthening the squad for the rest of the competition.
