Terrible match for the Polish representative! The coach couldn’t take it anymore
Jan Ziółkowski made his debut in the starting lineup of AS Roma. However, his performance was terrible, and coach Gian Piero Gasperini replaced the Pole after just 30 minutes.
There is no doubt that this was not how Jan Ziółkowski’s first appearance in the AS Roma starting lineup could have been imagined. The Pole, who arrived in the Italian capital in the summer of 2025, is gradually being introduced to the famous team from the Apennine Peninsula.
This time, it seemed that it would be a special evening for Ziółkowski. And that was indeed the case, but it was an exceptionally… bad performance by the Polish defender.

What’s worse, from the Polish perspective, the first goal should definitely be credited to Ziółkowski. The Pole allowed himself to be pushed by the shooter, Prince Kwabena Adu simply first… flicked the Polish representative off the shoulder, and then drove into the penalty area and gave his team the lead. The second goal was less the fault of the Polish defender, but it was clear that instead of a truly successful performance, Ziółkowski could only flounder with his colleagues.
Gasperini, known for his temperament, did not wait. In the 30th minute, the Pole was replaced. Ziółkowski was clearly dissatisfied with the decision made by the experienced Italian coach.
However, the defender did not make any special gestures, realizing how bad his performance was. And a harsh lesson received from a coach who has a good hand with young players. Sometimes, however, you have to swallow a bitter pill if Ziółkowski is to become a really high-class defender in the future.
