Tenement house fire in Poznań. Prosecutor’s office provides new information

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, a tenement house in Poznań’s Jeżyce district caught fire. As a result of the incident, two firefighters died and 11 were injured. The results of the autopsies of the deceased uniformed officers are already in. The prosecutor’s office also provided several other new pieces of information in the case.
In a conversation with Interia, the spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań – prosecutor Łukasz Wawrzyniak – indicated that the investigation into the incident will include activities aimed at identifying the cause of the fire in the building. The course of the fire will also be reconstructed. The damage it caused will also be estimated.
Tenement house fire. Prosecutor’s office secured numerous evidence materials
Investigators have already conducted an inspection of, among other things, cars that were located near the tenement house. Other materials have also been collected, such as recordings from nearby surveillance cameras. The clothing of firefighters who took part in the rescue and firefighting operation has also been secured, which may be useful in determining the circumstances and course of the incident.
The Poznań PO spokesman said that the prosecutor’s office and the city authorities are working together to make the decision to demolish the completely destroyed building more quickly, thanks to which investigators will be able to begin activities at the site of the fire.
The autopsy results are in
Prosecutor Wawrzyniak also spoke about the autopsy results. “The experts did not indicate the direct cause of death,” he told Interia. In order to determine it, “in-depth histopathological tests are necessary.” The public will most likely be informed of everything in a few weeks.
Let us recall that firefighters arrived at the scene around midnight and finished their work only in the afternoon on Sunday (the fire was still smoldering in some places until the very end). Jacek Jaśkowiak, the mayor of Poznań, said that the building will probably be demolished soon.
The firefighters who died were 33 and 34 years old. One of them left behind two children. Fire departments across Poland paid tribute to their uniformed officers.
