Teenage Poles got stuck on a difficult mountain route. The rescue operation was hampered by rain
Two Polish teenagers overestimated their abilities while climbing the Vyzva via ferrata in central Slovakia. The 16-year-old and his 17-year-old companion were exhausted and unable to complete the route on their own. Mountain rescuers rushed to help.
A dangerous incident occurred on Friday, July 17, in the Skalka area near Kremnica in central Slovakia. In the evening, the emergency center of the Slovak Mountain Rescue Service received a report about two young Poles.
A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl got stuck on the Vyzva ferrata route. According to Slovak rescuers, the teenagers were exhausted and overestimated their capabilities. They were unable to continue climbing safely or get off the route on their own.
Poles got stuck on one of the most difficult routes
Rescuers from the Horska Zachranna Service center in Veľká Fatra, serving in the Kremnické Mountains, set out to help the teenagers. The operation was complicated by falling rain.
Despite difficult conditions, rescuers reached the Poles, then safely lowered them to the ground and transported them to the Skalka area. The teenagers were not injured and did not report any other complaints. After completing the activities, they were able to leave under the care of their friends, informed the Slovak mountain rescue service.
The Slovak ferrata “Vyzva” is considered one of the most difficult routes of this type in Slovakia. It is rated E, meaning a very high level of difficulty. The route is approximately 70 meters long and has an elevation gain of 60 meters. It also includes a four-meter long overhang section and is equipped with a small number of artificial steps. It is intended only for experienced and well-prepared people.
Ferrata are secured climbing routes equipped with steel ropes, clamps and steps. Even when using appropriate equipment, they require adjusting the difficulty level to your experience and checking the weather forecast.
