Taxi drivers carry more and more debts. The record holder must pay back PLN 2 million

On the occasion of Taxi Driver’s Day, we learned the data on the debt of this professional group. The analysis of the National Debt Register (KRD) in this respect covered entrepreneurs who make money on passenger transport. This applies to both traditional taxi drivers running their own business, as well as drivers and companies providing rides through applications such as Uber or Bolt, if they act as entrepreneurs and provide the transport service themselves. However, the data does not include application operators or technological platforms that act as intermediaries in ordering rides between passengers and drivers. Persons employed under an employment contract are also not taken into account here, because the analysis concerns business activity.

Taxi drivers’ debts are growing. Almost PLN 60 million

Just a year ago, taxi drivers’ unpaid liabilities amounted to PLN 55.7 million. Since then, they have increased to PLN 59.2 million, i.e. by PLN 3.5 million. Compared to August 2025 by 2.2 thousand. PLN, the average debt increased and now reaches PLN 22.7 thousand. zloty. However, the number of debtors decreased (by 4%).

– There are fewer indebted taxi companies in the register than a year ago, but those that remain in it are facing an increasing problem. This may mean that some entrepreneurs pay off smaller arrears and disappear from the register, while companies whose problems are deeper and last longer remain on the register. Then each fixed cost, such as a car leasing installment, insurance or fuel, burdens liquidity even more. As a result, the group of debtors may shrink and the value of their arrears may continue to increase – comments Adam Łącki, president of the Management Board of the National Debt Register of the Economic Information Office.

The record holder must pay back PLN 2 million

The record holder turns out to be a debtor from Warsaw who has PLN 2 million to pay. Of this amount, PLN 1.5 million is for leasing and PLN 438,000. PLN for insurance.

Regionally, most arrears are concentrated in Mazovia (PLN 16.8 million). The inglorious runner-up is the voivodeship. Pomeranian Voivodeship (PLN 7.6 million), and on the lowest step of the podium are the voivodeships Lower Silesia and Silesia (PLN 6.5 million each).

In the KRD database, the largest group of taxi entities are sole proprietorships (1.9 thousand of them, i.e. almost three-quarters of all debtors). Their arrears amount to PLN 33.3 million.

KRD points out that the taxi industry is also a creditor. Other sectors owe PLN 2.7 million in arrears. The largest share goes to construction (approx. PLN 547.3 thousand), industrial processing (PLN 520.2 thousand) and trade (PLN 469.9 thousand). This is not the “net debt” of the industry and these amounts cannot simply be subtracted from PLN 60 million. However, they show that some taxi companies, in addition to their own payment problems, are waiting for money from contractors.
