Minister of National Education Barbara Nowacka on Thursday, May 8 appeared in the “Graffiti” program in Polsat News. Among the topics she raised were, among others physical education lessons.

The Ministry of National Education is currently conducting consultations on the compensation of exemptions from PE. As Barbara Nowacka said, her resort would like to take care of the health of students. New rules would contribute to this that would prompt young people to spend time outdoors, or at least in motion.

Children don’t exercise at PE? Minister Nowacka: Let them take steps

Nowacka explained that, like the absence of other lessons, physical education classes would be made up for other lessons. – Very often it is that young people do not practice for various reasons on a given day. For example, girls for menstrual reasons – she admitted in Polsat News.

– We’ll see what will come out of the consultation. One of the recommendations is that if the student says “I don’t exercise today, because my stomach hurts”, then the teacher can easily tell him: “Don’t play basketball, don’t jump into the distance, but take 10,000 steps.” It is also replaceable, the teacher has such tools – she argued.

Speaking of “taking steps”, she meant walking with the phone on which the application for counting steps made by the owner is installed. This is a popular way of activating adults who notice the disastrous influence of a sitting lifestyle on their health.

PE lessons will you need to do it?

Minister Nowacka noticed that so far the issue of lack of participation in PE was too easily forgiven. – If someone was not in mathematics, it is catching up. If someone was not on PE, he thinks he is after the subject. It shouldn’t be like that – she said.

At the same time, she did not want to agree with the journalist host that such homework would even facilitate the exclusive excuses. – Let them take steps better than sit on the bench. It’s not like it will be obligatory. It will be a teacher’s decision – answered Barbara Nowacka.
