Szymon Marciniak rescues the World Cup final! FIFA found itself against the wall
It seems that the chances of hosting the final of the FIFA World Cup are increasing day by day. FIFA came under heavy pressure after the Spain-France semi-final.
The European champions (2024) showed their place in the row to the world runners-up (2022). In Tuesday’s (July 14) semi-final, Spain proved that it intends to attack the title of the best team in the world.
After the match, the coach of the defeated team had a lot of complaints about the referees’ work. Didier Deschamps openly criticized the way the match was officiated by the referee from El Salvador. FIFA decided to choose a referee from a rather exotic country for such an important match, although in the end it seems that Ivan Barton played a good match.
However, the Tricolor coach had the right to be bitter. The French performed very poorly.

Another dose of open criticism regarding the work of referees during the 2026 World Cup is another problem for FIFA. There is no denying that the current World Cup was and still is full of many decisions that were considered huge controversies.
This shows even more that the FIFA Refereeing Committee can rely on proven solutions in decisive matches. Szymon Marciniak can certainly be considered as such. Will a Pole referee the World Cup final for the second time in a row? It seems that there is one element that can eliminate the Pole. This is Argentina’s participation in the World Cup final.
– I think he will be considered for one of the matches where Argentina will not be present, because FIFA does not want to provoke after Marciniak did not give Messi a card – Mateusz Borek from Kanał Sportowy rightly assessed.
It may therefore turn out that the Pole will be a “rescue option”. However, we mentioned that the head of the FIFA Referees Commission, Pierluigi Collina, has never been disappointed with Marciniak’s work. For this reason, it can be assumed that if the Spain-England final, i.e. a replay of Euro 2024, takes place, the Pole will lead the battle for the title on Sunday (i.e. July 19).

From June 11 to July 19, the 23rd FIFA World Cup will be held on pitches in three countries – the United States, Mexico and Canada. An event that will certainly be unique, if only because of its format. For the first time in history, as many as 48 teams took part in the main tournament.
The title from four years ago is defended by the Argentines. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Messi and company defeated the French in the final, winning after a series of penalties (4:2). In the history of football World Cups, Brazil has the most titles – as many as five. Four victories in the history of the World Championships belong to the Italians and Germans. The Argentines won three times. More than once, the trophy for winning the World Cup was raised – twice – by the players of France and Uruguay.
The Polish national team was third twice at the World Championships, but those were the old days – we are talking about the events in 1974 and 1982. At the last World Cup, Poles managed to advance to the knockout phase, but were eliminated in the 1/8 finals by the French (1:3).
