The 2026 Football World Cup attracts the attention of fans in Poland. Although Robert Lewandowski and his teammates are missing from the event, the viewership record was broken.
The FIFA World Cup has a rich tradition. It is the most important football event in the world, where the best teams in the world have the opportunity to compete once every four years. Unfortunately, this time there was no Polish team on the fields of the United States, Canada and Mexico. But fans in Poland still follow the World Cup events.
TVP boasts of success! The FIFA World Cup attracts TV viewers
The fifth day of the tournament turned out to be record-breaking. TVP Sport announced that it recorded the best result (i.e. 5.6% share in the television market on a given sports broadcast day) since July 2024, i.e. since… another football tournament, i.e. the European Championship. The Belgium-Egypt match on Monday (June 15) was watched by a total of 2.6 million viewers on TVP1, TVP Sport and mobile applications.
In the case of the match between Spain and Cape Verde, the viewership was 2.2 million (TVP2 and TVP Sport).
In addition, there are over 220,000 and 240,000 online users following Monday’s matches, respectively. As you can see, the World Cup madness is also spreading in Poland. And now we can only wonder what would happen if the Polish national team also took part in the tournament.
World Cup 2026. Where and when to watch the greatest football World Cup in history?
From June 11 to July 19, the 23rd FIFA World Cup will be held on pitches in three countries – the United States, Mexico and Canada. An event that will certainly be unique, if only because of its format. For the first time in history, as many as 48 teams will take part in the main tournament.
The title from four years ago is defended by the Argentines. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Lionel Messi and company defeated the French in the final, winning after a series of penalties (4:2). In the history of football World Cups, Brazil has the most titles – as many as five. Four victories in the history of the World Championships belong to the Italians and Germans. The Argentines won three times. More than once, the trophy for winning the World Cup was raised – twice – by the players of France and Uruguay.
The Polish national team was third twice at the World Championships, but those were the old days – we are talking about the events in 1974 and 1982. At the last World Cup, Poles managed to advance to the knockout phase, but were eliminated in the 1/8 finals by the French (1:3).
