Sunny Beach in the rain. Weather warnings up to date

Zalany tunel w Burgas, 4 października

Orange warnings for heavy rain are in force in southeastern Bulgaria. The beginning of October brought dramatic downpours.

Tourists who wanted to catch some sun rays shortly after the end of the season in Bulgaria were severely disappointed last week. Before the weekend, the country was hit by heavy rains, which became not only an obstacle to recreation, but even a threat to life. It rained the heaviest near the village of Elenite on the Black Sea coast. Four people died – including a man who was staying in the basement of the building and two rescuers. The water carried away cars and houses were left without electricity.

Streets in the Black Sea resorts of Sunny Beach and St. Vlas were underwater. Public transport services had to be suspended in the famous UNESCO-listed Nessebar and Tsarevo.

Rain in Sunny Beach. When will it improve?

Orange warnings remain in effect on Monday before heavy rain also in tourist towns – including in the Burgas region, where there are famous resorts (including Sunny Beach) and Plovdiv, located in the central part of the country, with its famous ancient city. Rainfall is also expected in the Yambol, Sliven, Haskovo, Stara Zagora, Kardzhali, Smolan, Pazardzhik and Blagoevgrad regions. On Monday, October 6, it will rain most intensely in the south-eastern part of the country, and on Tuesday the rainfall will move to other areas of central and eastern Bulgaria.

Clearing can be expected in south-eastern Bulgaria only from Thursday. The rain will subside and temperatures are expected to reach 16-18 degrees Celsius.

The same group of towns and villages in Burgas Oblast on the southern Black Sea coast also experienced devastating floods in September 2023.
