However, Koshkarov’s greatest successes were as a player. As a left winger, he was considered one of the most talented players of his era, combining technical excellence with handball intelligence that made him an important figure for over two decades.

Born on November 4, 1975 in Russia, Koksharov left an indelible mark on the sport, both as a top-class player and a respected coach who devoted his life to handball until his last days (…) On behalf of the entire handball family IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa would like to express his sincere condolences to the family and friends of Eduard Koksharov, as well as to all those who worked with him throughout his extraordinary handball career. His legacy as a world champion, Olympic champion and leader on and off the pitch will forever be remembered in the history of our sport,” the International Handball Federation wrote on its website.

The greatest successes in your career? Olympic gold medal (2000), bronze at the Olympics (2004), world championship (1997) and vice-championship (1999), and bronze at the European Championships (2004). Koksharov won all his titles as a representative of Russia.

The Russian was also an eight-time Slovenian champion and played a key role in the historic EHF Champions League victory in the 2003/04 season, the first and only Champions League title in Slovenian handball history, with RK Celje Pivovarna Laško.

Eduard Koksharov died suddenly at the age of 50.
