Strong scenes in the Poland – Israel match. “Boiled” in the stands in Spodek

Katowice once again proved to be magical for Polish basketball. The Polish national team does not cease to amaze and after she dealt with Slovenia (105: 95), this time Israel celebrated. It was a match that aroused a lot of emotions before it began. As it turned out, the atmosphere in the stands was very hot. Although “cooked” in several situations, ultimately the events on the pitch mainly dominated the Saturday start at Eurobasket.

However, there is no question that although the emotions in the context of the result were actually until the last action of the meeting, several scenes took place in Spodek, which quickly became important points in social media. Starting from what is before the start of the game, i.e. the booing/recovery of the Israeli anthem.

It was therefore known from the start what atmosphere would prevail in the stands. Poles on the pitch took the fate of the meeting into their own hands. Although the team of coach Igor Militia played a better first and much weaker second half (especially the third quarter), the team once again showed a huge character. And the two Jordan Loyd and Mateusz Ponitka are a duo that Slovenia and Israel can easily envy Poland.

In addition to the expression of deep disapproval of the Israeli hymn, the Palestine flag also appeared in the stands. Protecting the event tried to intervene, but in this case it seems that a clear message has gone into the world.

Interestingly, Israeli fans appeared in Spodek and cheered on their favorites. With long fragments, it seemed that Israel would eventually be able to win in Katowice. The sensational tip, which the hosts served – at the forefront of the “Polish Jordan” mentioned above – made Israel to get off the dance floor.

And a few “incidents” involving fans in Spodek took place. We do not write here about any disturbance of peace or handles, but … intonation of characteristic songs, directed almost directly at the guests.

A completely separate story is the situation in which athletes from Israel are currently. It seems that we are talking about typical, double standards. On the one hand, Russian teams, teams and individual representatives were withdrawn from any sports games after the attack on Ukraine. Israel hit the Middle East and in this context – nothing was actually going on, even for punishment. Not to mention exclusion.

This makes the atmosphere even more tense. In addition, Polish fans have freshly remembered events from the recent UEFA conference league elimination match. At that time, a group of Maccabi Hajf supporters decided to attack the Polish side in a scandalous way. “The murderers from 1939” – was the slogan on the banner of fans of the Israeli club, which eventually lost to Raków Częstochowa in a two -legged.

Regardless of the tense of the Polish-Israeli situation, at least in the context of the latest events from the world of sport, it is once more worth appreciating the next, valuable victory of basketball players in Eurobasket. Especially considering the fact that Poles were sentenced to defeat rather than actual successes in clashes with Slovenia or Israel.

Subsequent rivals of the hosts at the European Championships? The last three meetings are: already on Sunday (August 31) a clash with Iceland, then on Tuesday (i.e. September 2) with France and at the end of this part of the competition, a match against Belgians – September 4 on Thursday.
