Strikes at airports throughout the summer. Tourists must be ready for this

Tourists planning a trip to Portugal should be patient, and on the way back come to the airport much earlier. Large weekend strikes are planned.

At the end of July and August, a trip to Portugal may be associated with many difficulties. For the next few days and August, airport staff announced strikes that can extend passengers and lead to delays. They will not be one -day actions.

Strikes in Portugal throughout the summer

Employees SPDH/Menzies (formerly GroundForce), a main company dealing with passengers for flight in Portugal, intend to strike for five weekends this summer. The strike is expected to touch all Portuguese airports (including in Lisbon, Faro, and Funchal in Madeira), and the first part of the strike will take place between North July 25 and North July 28i.e. the next Friday and the next Monday. The same actions are scheduled for four weekends of August.

The local portal Portugal.com advises:

  • Before traveling, get acquainted with the airline policy regarding cancellation and changes in reservations.

  • Arise to the airport as soon as possible, even if we do not give luggage. Luggage and check -in employees also take part in the action, so queues can be significantly extended.

  • He encourages to book direct flights whenever possible to avoid losing a change.

  • Tourists traveling between Azors may consider ferry connections, especially between closer destinations, such as the islands of Faial and Pico.

Flights from Madeira. Possible difficulties on July 25

For now, there are no planned difficulties on the pages of the airports. Tourists arriving at Funchal may expect other problems. Weather forecasts indicate adverse conditions that can affect operations (departures and arrivals) on Friday, July 25. “Contact the airline to confirm the flight status before going to the airport,” we read in the communiqué. At the beginning of July, the weather in Madeira led to several flights, including Poland.
