Storm after Duda’s decision. Kowalczyk left no stone unturned on the president

Justyna Kowalczyk, Andrzej Duda

Andrzej Duda caused a storm with his decision regarding the Sports Act. They left no stone unturned on the president, among others. Minister Sławomir Nitras and Justyna Kowalczyk.

Just before Christmas, Andrzej Duda made a surprising decision. The President decided to refer the Sports Act to the Constitutional Tribunal under preventive control. The Chancellery of the President reported that The head of state’s doubts were raised by the issue of electing some of the new members of the management boards of Polish sports associations and the penalties proposed by the legislator.

Pursuant to the regulations adopted by the Sejm, the choice would be made by port workers, bypassing the general meeting of union delegates and for every seven members of the management board of a sports association, there would be at least one representative of the national team players.

Andrzej Duda referred the bill to the Constitutional Tribunal. Nitras: He ruined my holidays

Sławomir Nitras left no stone unturned in Andrzej Duda’s decision. – We came back from Christmas and received a gift from the president. I must admit that this is a bitter gift that not only spoiled Christmas for me. I think that the date chosen by the president, i.e. the day before Christmas Eve, when the eyes of Poles are turned towards their family homes, was not accidental. I guess he was a bit shameful and tried to get out of a situation that was embarrassing for all of us, said the Minister of Sports

The president refused to sign the act, which assumed that for the first time athletes would have real influence on sports associations. He also blocked the presence of women in relationships. This is very sad. I saw him applauding our medalists in Paris, and now something like this. This is in brutal contradiction to the values declared by the president – said the KO politician.

The Minister of Sport also drew attention to the fact that “the IOC, the institution to which it aspires, has issued strong recommendations to national Olympic committees and sports federations to introduce a minimum 30% quota for the presence of women in their management bodies by 2020.”

– It’s no secret that the president, by refusing to sign the act, acted in the interests of Radosław Piesiewicz and those who manage the POC, not in the interests of athletes, said the head of the Ministry of Sports.

Pyrek and Kowalczyk criticize Andrzej Duda

Andrzej Duda’s decision was also criticized by Polish athletes. Monika Pyrek emphasized that “the players are not fighting for privileges, but for normality.”

In turn, Justyna Kowalczyk described the head of state’s move as “the worst Christmas gift.” “Introducing women to the management boards of Polish sports associations, supporting pregnant players and athletes continuing their studies, and fighting discrimination are today’s priorities.. Let’s not let the introduction of these changes be stopped,” wrote the Polish Olympic champion, adding that “the amendment to the Sports Act introduces regulations thanks to which international good practices will also become our Polish standard.”
