Steel plate. A mysterious object found near Poznań

Kolejny fragment rakiety Falcon 9 znaleziony w Wielkopolsce

In the town of Gołuski near Poznań, the owner of the field came across an unusual, metal object with dimensions of about 50 by 100 centimeters. Initially, he considered him a harmless sheet, but after more accurate examination he decided to inform the services.

Firefighters and police dealt with the matter. The Polish Space Agency also joined the activities. There is a high probability that the find may be another fragment of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which burned in the atmosphere over Poland on February 19, 2025.

Unusual application from the field

Application about a suspicious object was received by the services on Friday, March 21, exactly at 14:32. The find was in the area of ul. Ogrodowa in Gołuski. Firefighters from OSP Palędzie were the first to reach the place, and then a professional unit from Poznań, including a specialist chemical rescue group. After assessing the situation, however, it was decided that there was no chemical threat and specialist units did not have to intervene.

– There was no threat, chemical units remained in the base. The actions of the guard on the spot ended – after 4pm, the younger aspirant Martin Halasz, spokesman for the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Poznań in an interview with TVN24.

Suspicions are confirmed by the police

In the initial phase of the intervention, both firefighters and policemen were not convinced that the find has a cosmic origin.

“It actually looks like a metal metal sheet, but whether it was once a part of the rocket, I have a doubt,” commented younger inspector Andrzej Borowiak, spokesman for the Provincial Police Headquarters in Poznań

After more accurate examination, the officers admitted, however, that the find may be related to the Falcon 9 rocket.

– A strange metal object was in the arable field near Dopiewie. It is made of metal. In appearance, there is a completely different tanks than previously found. However, we suppose that it may come from the Falcon 9 rocket – said Borowiak a little later in an interview with TVN24.

It lay unnoticed for at least two weeks

It turns out that the owner of the field noticed the subject two weeks earlier, but he did not associate it with possible fragments of the rocket.

“Only now, when the weather has improved and the time of care of field care came, did he think that” it could be “and called,” Borowiak explained.

The object was secured and will go to a police deposit. Further expertise is planned, which can confirm its real origin.

Polsa keeps documentation

A representative of the Polish Space Agency (Polsa) also arrived.

– Similarly to previous finds, our employee is in place, he will make the right documentation – said Polsa spokeswoman Agnieszka Gapys in an interview with TVN24.

At the same time, she emphasized that the case is more difficult than previous cases:

– This object is not similar to those previously found that looked – as you can see in the pictures – like tanks. That is why you will probably need a deeper analysis and sending this documentation to SpaceX – said Agnieszka Gapys.

Another find in Greater Poland

The find from Gołuski is the seventh case of suspected finding a fragment of the Falcon 9 rocket in Greater Poland. The previous one took place, among others: 19 February in Komorniki – the fragment fell to the warehouse, February 19 in Wirach – the object was found in the forest on February 19 in Śliwno – the remains fell to the field, February 21 in Szamotuły – on the edge of the forest, on March 11 in Łowień near Międzychód, on March 22 in the forest near the cross in the Międzychodziejka poviat.

All finds are connected by one common thread: entering the atmosphere of the Falcon 9 r/b rocket member, which took place on February 19, 2025. As confirmed by the Space Security Department of the Polish Space Agency, this member of a mass of about 4 tons belonged to the Starlink Group 11-4 mission, which started on February 1 from the Vandenberg air base in California.

Still no official response from SpaceX

Despite a few weeks from the first discoveries, the Polish Space Agency has still not received an official response from SpaceX regarding finds. Polsa emphasizes that it is necessary to confirm the origin of objects by the manufacturer, i.e. the company Elona Muska. Only then will it be possible to formally recognize that these are indeed fragments of the Falcon 9 rocket.

Experts indicate that repetitive cases of falling fragments of rockets to inhabited areas may arise questions about liability for damage, as well as the need to create appropriate procedures in the case of such incidents. According to the Convention on the Liability of States for damages caused by space objects of 1972, liability for damages rests with the state that the object fired.
