Stalowa Wola. A 24-year-old woman gave birth to a dead child. The hospital published a statement
A young pregnant woman was admitted to a medical facility in the Podkarpacie region. A few days later, tragedy struck – she gave birth to a stillborn daughter. The hospital issued a statement on the matter.
The incident, publicized by “Interwencja”, took place on the premises of the hospital in Stalowa Wola. In the second half of May, the 24-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital, where she underwent an obstetric ultrasound examination. The ultrasound showed that she had a small amount of amniotic fluid. The next day, the doctors decided to induce labor.
They did a CTG. “They told me to wait”
When this failed, they asked the woman to be patient and wait for the events to unfold. Two days later, the 24-year-old was again supposed to receive drugs with an identical effect, but they once again did not do their job. In an interview with the editorial team of the Polsat TV program, the 24-year-old reported that she was supposed to wait every day for the hospital staff to “start doing something”. Together with her relatives, she was supposed to ask them about performing a “cesarean section” in the current situation. It is worth adding that the woman was already “past the due date” of her planned delivery. In response, the doctors indicated that observation should be continued.
On the fourth day of her hospital stay, the doctor allegedly suggested that the woman rest – no action was planned that day. “They told her to wait until something started happening,” the 24-year-old told journalists. They also performed a fetal cardiotocography (CTG), which did not reveal any abnormalities. “They told her to wait, even though I reported that I could feel the baby’s movements very faintly,” says the resident of Podkarpacie. In the evening, she underwent another CTG. After the second such test, the doctors decided to perform a caesarean section (involving opening the abdominal cavity and uterus).
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old gave birth to a dead child. Today, both the young woman and her loved ones blame the Podkarpacie hospital for the entire dramatic situation. The 24-year-old’s father says that doctors asked his daughter whether she smoked or drank. “After everything was over, there was a search for the guilty party,” he says. But who is really responsible here? The prosecutor’s office will now deal with explaining this issue.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Tarnobrzeg has collected evidence – documentation has been secured, and witnesses have been questioned. Prosecutor Marcin Kurdziel emphasizes that until the autopsy results are available, and until all witnesses have been questioned, he cannot provide the media with more detailed information regarding the ongoing investigation.
The authorities of the medical facility have commented on the case. “The management of the Independent Public Healthcare Complex of the District Specialist Hospital in Stalowa Wola assures that it is in contact with the services in order to clarify the matter. However, due to the ongoing proceedings conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Tarnobrzeg, until the proceedings are completed, the Hospital will not provide information regarding the details of the case” – reads the statement, quoted by the editorial team of Radio ZET.
