Space match for the Polish championship. The Resurrection of the Jurassic Knights!
The volleyball players played over two hours of great fun in the fourth PlusLiga final. In Lublin, Bogdanka LUK lost to Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie 1:3.
Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie was in a difficult situation before coming to Lublin. Last weekend, the Zawiercie team received a harsh volleyball lesson from the Polish champions. Bogdanka LUK won in Sosnowiec decisively 3:0, putting itself in a great starting position before Wednesday’s (i.e. May 6) match number 4.
The Lublin team rarely loses at home. As it turned out, coach Michał Winiarski’s team managed to cheat fate. Especially since the scenario did not indicate that the Jurassic Knights would be able to extend the competition to the fifth, decisive match for the Polish championship. By the way, returning to their home territory, because the Zawiercie team gained this advantage by winning the regular phase of PlusLiga.
PlusLiga: Aluron CMC Warta with a key victory! Who will claim the gold?
The visitors from Zawiercie started Wednesday evening with a lot of enthusiasm, but something happened that happened several times in these finals. Bogdanka LUK managed to regain a good result at the end, tipping the scales of victory to their side. The hosts won by a margin of 26:24. And the game itself lasted well over half an hour of play.
However, in subsequent installments, what happened in match number 2 happened, also in Lublin. Then the Polish champions – in a way known only to them – managed to make up for the loss of several points, thanks to which they finally won the game, then 3:1.
However, it turned out that nothing happens twice. The guests first equalized (1:1) after winning 25:20, and then they did something that restored their faith in the final triumph. They defended themselves sportingly in the third set, recovering from losses of 2:7, 7:12 or 12:16. What’s more, the Jurassic Knights took the first lead with the score 22:21. And they were able to close the game, putting their opponents in an uncomfortable – especially mentally – position.
Bartłomiej Bołądź played a fantastic match on Wednesday, as he kept the guests’ attack going, regardless of the situation. Aaron Russell also contributed, heavily loaded not only in attack, but also in receiving the serve. The American is the most consistent volleyball player on coach Winiarski’s team for a long time, and certainly in the finals.
What about Stephane Antiga’s team? The Frenchman had to look for a solution in the reception, in the 4th set he bet on Mikołaj Sawicki, who had recently returned to the game. And it was a solid change for the Pole who appeared in place of Jackson Young. The attacker Mateusz Malinowski was slightly worse that day, but Wilfredo Leon – like Bołądź – was at an equal level – over 20 points in his match achievements, often with a double or triple block.
Match MVP? Bartłomiej Bołądź.
Ultimately, Aluron CMC Warta won in Lublin 3:1 and therefore in the game for the PlusLiga gold there is a draw 2:2. The most important, fifth match – where only the winner will take the title – will take place next Sunday, May 10, from 2:45 p.m.
