Tourists come to the capital of Lesser Poland for other places, but this has a long history. This year he is celebrating the 120th anniversary.
Polish spas attract seniors and tourists, including to the Baltic Sea and Lower Silesia. Few people know that the former capital of Poland and the royal city, nowadays besieged by tourists from abroad, also has their healing waters and an interesting place that is worth visiting.
Polish spa discovered by accident
It is a spa founded by A. Mateczny, a construction engineer from the Czech Republic, who worked on the construction of fortifications on Krzemionki. “Dziennik Polski” reminds that in the spring of 1898, the studios were looking for a mate source of drinking water and came across that of a characteristic color and fragrance of hydrogen sulfide. A visit of the Czech spa, Karlova Wara immediately recognized the value of the find. After obtaining the appropriate permits in 1905, a sulfur-shaped water switch, to which patients came.
As in many cases in Polish history, the war destroyed what was valuable.
Gazetakrakowska.pl reminds that the Sulfusian-Solan Water Plant operated until the beginning of World War II, but later the Germans arranged a branch of sewing plants for the army. Devastation was completed by the presence of the Red Army. After the war, the original character of this place was restored, but in the 1990s the object fell into oblivion.
Cultural events in Krakow
In 2023 a new chapter began in the spa’s activities. Currently there is a Krakow Zdrojowa pump room. At the Mateczna roundabout, various types of famous water are currently available, and the Zdrojowa Lemonade is also available. If this is not a sufficient recommendation, then Robert Makłowicz recently invited to “Krakow Karlovy Warów”.
This year this place celebrates the 120th anniversary. On the website of the Krakow Zdrojowa Pump Room and social media, information about cultural events is added on an ongoing basis to bring the figure of Antoni Mateczny and maintain the tradition of using healing sources.
The Krakow Zdrojowa Pump Room is located in a picturesque spa park, nearly one of the most important communication nodes – the Antoni Mateczny roundabout. Sometimes you don’t need much to find a quiet place to relax.
