Smart Home – to make life there more comfortable

Mornings rarely look like something from an interior catalogue. Someone is in a hurry, someone is looking for something, there is a queue for the bathroom, breakfast is prepared on the run. And such everyday life – a bit chaotic, a bit unpredictable and definitely far from perfect – became the starting point of the Samsung campaign “Close to your everyday life” with Borys Szyc and Justyna Szyc-Nagłowska.

This is a good direction, because a smart home is not needed most when everything works perfectly. It is useful when we don’t have time, our hands are busy, and the to-do list grows faster than we can shorten it. Technology does not play a major role in the Szyc home. The main characters are people and their ordinary day. Samsung devices are simply meant to make your day a little easier.

It starts in the kitchen. Preparing breakfast together can quickly turn into a small battlefield, especially when there are several things on the counter at the same time and cutlery ends up wherever there is space. In such a situation, the Anti-Scratch function in selected Samsung induction hobs sounds much more practical than in the advertising brochure. The surface of the hob has been designed to be more scratch-resistant, even when the kitchen is temporarily no longer a perfectly tidy space.

It’s even more interesting with a refrigerator. The AI Vision Inside function in selected Samsung models allows you to recognize some of the products inside, and thanks to SmartThings, the user can check the contents of the refrigerator on a smartphone. This is one of those examples where technology works best in a very ordinary situation. Borys or Justyna are already in the store and suddenly the classic question arises: “Do we still have this at home?” Instead of calling, guessing or adding another package to your cart just in case, you can simply look into the fridge from your phone. Less unnecessary purchases, fewer products to throw away later, and one less thing to remember.

The smartphone becomes a kind of remote control for the entire house. The SmartThings app lets you manage your compatible Samsung devices from one place. You can check their status, receive notifications when work is completed, or change settings without going from one device to another.

This is exactly the kind of technology that only becomes truly convenient when we stop noticing it. The washing machine simply lets you know that it is finished. You can check the fridge while shopping. A TV can be part of the entire home ecosystem. You don’t have to remember everything yourself. After a long day, there finally comes a moment when technology is not supposed to help you with your duties, but to allow you to rest from them. For the Szycs, this means a movie together or a match in front of the TV.

And here again it is a very prosaic problem. The living room is bright, the sun comes in through the windows, and instead of a movie, we start seeing our own reflection on the screen. Samsung TVs equipped with Glare Free technology reduce distracting light reflections, so the image remains readable even in a brightly lit room. This is not a function that needs to be activated in the application or configured before each session. And that is why it fits well into the idea of the entire campaign. Technology is supposed to work when it is needed, without adding another thing to do.

It’s the same with energy. SmartThings not only allows you to control compatible devices, but also, in the case of selected devices, monitor their energy consumption. In everyday life, of course, this does not mean that the Szyc family sits down every evening to chart electricity consumption. Rather, it gives you the opportunity to check what is happening at home and where you can look for savings.

The most interesting thing about the “Close to Your Everyday Life” campaign is what it actually doesn’t contain. There is no futuristic house where artificial intelligence decides for the inhabitants, nor a sterile interior where nothing ever falls on the floor.

There is a family. There is a kitchen mess. There is shopping, cooking together, a movie and devices that appear somewhere in between all this. Borys Szyc sums up that modern technologies can naturally accompany us every day, help us with our duties and leave more time for what is really important – our loved ones. And this is probably what best explains why we need a smart home today. Not to make the house more technological. To make life there a little simpler and more comfortable.
