Sikorski has a new attorney. He will be responsible for cooperation with Germany
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed a representative for Polish-German social and border cooperation. What will Prof. do? Krzysztof Ruchniewicz?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that Radosław Sikorski had appointed prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz as his representative for Polish-German social and border cooperation.
The ministry explained in a statement that its main tasks will be to formulate proposals aimed at improving Polish-German social and cross-border cooperation, as well as supporting and taking actions to develop Polish-German social contacts. Prof. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ruchniewicz will also be responsible for cooperation with the Coordinator for German-Polish Intersocial and Cross-Border Cooperation and will support the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in dialogue with the German side in the area of historical policy.
The plenipotentiary's tasks will also include monitoring the progress of the implementation of the German-Polish House in Berlin and taking actions aimed at ensuring that the German side takes into account Polish interests within this project. Prof. Ruchniewicz will ensure commitment to actually increase the availability of Polish language teaching in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Prof. Krzysztof Henryk Ruchniewicz is a historian, German expert, director of the Center for German and European Studies. Willy Brandt, member of the Senate of the University of Wrocław for the 2020–2024 term. In 2023, he was awarded the prize of the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). The justification emphasized, among others: his outstanding contributions to the Polish-German understanding and the European idea.
He also received the Gold Cross of Merit “for services to the development of science” (2011), the Cross of Merit on the Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Germany) “for his commitment to Polish-German friendship and his scientific work in this area” (2019. ) and the Medal commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution and German Unification “Sachsen – Land der Friedlichen Revolution” for special contributions to Polish-German relations and civic involvement (2021).
