Short message from the Prime Minister of Sweden to Donald Tusk. We’re talking about the result of the World Cup match
Ulf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Sweden, had a lot of reasons to be happy after the Sweden-Poland football match. He sent a short message to Donald Tusk.
Let us remind you that the Polish national team – although it fought hard to go to the 2026 World Cup – lost 2:3 at the Strawberry Arena in Solno. The Poles made up for the losses twice, but it was not enough to advance to this year’s World Cup.
The Prime Minister of Sweden with a message for Donald Tusk. We’re talking about the Sweden-Poland match
The Swedes can be happy with their success, especially since for the last two years they have been in a deep crisis in terms of the results achieved by the national football team. Ulf Kristersson, the Prime Minister of Sweden, did not hide his satisfaction with the victory over the Poles. A man who is in close relations with his Polish counterpart – Donald Tusk.
Kristersson even delivered a short, positive message to the Polish Prime Minister through the media.
– I must greet the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk. It was additional fun that we played against a country with which we have so much in common, said Ulf Kristersson, quoted by Sport.pl.
On their way to the 2026 World Cup, the Swedes defeated Ukraine in the semi-finals (3-1) and Poland in the final (3-2). The Scandinavians were changed by a new coach – the Englishman Graham Potter.
The Polish national team interrupted a special series. A great tournament without Poles!
Looking at recent history, the 2026 World Cup will be especially sad for Polish fans. Since 2016, the Polish national team has been consistently participating in subsequent, largest tournaments.
This series was started by the team led by coach Adam Nawałka during Euro 2016. This tournament also brought the greatest success for the Polish national team of the 21st century, namely a place in the quarterfinals and an unfortunate, minimal defeat against Portugal (later champions) after a series of penalty kicks.
Then the Poles took part in: World Cup 2018 (Russia, eliminated after the group stage), Euro 2020 (in several countries, finally played in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no advancement from the group), World Cup 2022 (Qatar, advanced to the knockout phase of the World Cup for the first time since 1986, defeat by France – later world runners-up) and Euro 2024 (Germany, eliminated after group competitions).
As you can see, this is the first sad result for the Polish national team after a decade of successful qualifying rounds, both for the World Championships and European Championships. However, it will be a bitter pill to swallow, especially considering that the Poles entered the last two tournaments (i.e. World Cup 2022 and Euro 2024) relatively successfully, taking advantage of their second chance by winning play-off matches. This trick failed with the Swedes.
